How it all started
We started this project in May 2020 to help doctors and hospitals monitor their patients with COVID-19.
Our first version had a cardboard enclosure in the shape of a rhinoceros and open hardware, so that anyone interested in reproducing it could do so.
Rinku replaces cellphone applications associated with medical devices. This makes it easier to monitor patients that don't know how to use cellphone apps, such as elderly people and children.
The patient receives the clinical kit to be used for his/her monitoring. The kit includes: a Rinku gateway, a pulse oximeter, and a thermometer. The components of the kit may vary according to the patient's needs.
Every time the patient uses the medical devices included in the kit, the gateway captures the reading and retransmits the data to the IoT platform where a health professional o family member can see the information.
The dashboard was developed using Node-Red and can be displayed in any smart device.
For our second iteration we added a screen to the getway to display it's status.
Version 3.0 had leds instead of a screen and the cardboard was replaced by metal casing.
The lastest version of the gateway has a plastic case and supports the following medical devices:
